Why do voltmeters have high resistance?

Why do voltmeters have high resistance? I read a few websites to answer my question, but I still don’t quite understand. Why is it important that as little current as possible passes through the voltmeter? Afterall, The voltmeter is measuring the potential difference (volts), not the current difference, isn’t it? :[ I’m really confused. Please help!

My multimeter will not measure current.? I recently got a multimeter (Mastech M300 to be exact). However, it will not measure current. In a series circuit, you have 3 bulbs and a batteri, you put your voltmeter "around" 1st bulb it"s 2v?

In a series circuit, you have 3 bulbs and a batteri, you put your voltmeter "around" 1st bulb it"s 2v? You put around 2nd bulbe , it says 2v and same for thr third one . What would be the reading on the voltmeter around the batteri?
